gro\u00dfz\u00fcgiges Geschenk<\/b>.<br \/><br \/>Inmitten von P\u00f6llau erhebt sich das heutige Schloss und einstige Augustiner Chorherrenstift. 1482 verf\u00fcgte Hans von Neuberg, der damalige Besitzer der Burg und des Marktes P\u00f6llau, in seinem Testament, die Burg nach seinem Tod in ein Augustiner-Chorherrenstift umzuwidmen. Das Stift P\u00f6llau wurde schlie\u00dflich 22 Jahre sp\u00e4ter gegr\u00fcndet. Im selben Jahr zogen acht Chorherren unter Propst Ulrich vom Stift Vorau nach P\u00f6llau um. Zwischen 1677 und 1779 wurde das Stift umgebaut und erweitert. Der Grundriss der Kirche und der m\u00e4chtigen Kuppelbau wurden dem Petersdom in Rom nachempfunden &#8211; im Volksmund wird das Bauwerk deshalb oft als &#8222;Steirischer Petersdom&#8220; bezeichnet.<br \/><br \/><b>Spuren bleiben bestehen<\/b>.<br \/><br \/>Allerdings wurde das Stift P\u00f6llau bereits sechs Jahre sp\u00e4ter im Zuge der Josephinischen Reformen aufgehoben und an den Staat \u00fcbergeben. Doch das fast 300-j\u00e4hrige Wirken der Chorherren machte P\u00f6llau zum geistigen, kulturellen und wirtschaftlichen Mittelpunkt des P\u00f6llauer Tales. Heute befindet sich das Schloss im Besitz der Marktgemeinde P\u00f6llau.
